Re: Balance Issues in 1942.2

A pre-placement bid is the standard way to re-balance an A&A board. I've never much liked bids, because an extra unit on a key battle can dramatically alter the variability of first round attacks, but since Bidding has been the traditional way, most people still opt for it. in 1942 sec ed. the stand...

2nd Edition Economy

I know many people have moved on already to the 1940 games, or are playing AA50, but I still consider this board the current flagship board for the franchise. It's the only one you can buy at most chain stores, it remains reasonably priced, the scale is manageable (two sessions on the physical board...

Re: How to think about Maps, (and IPC distribution)

It may be instructive at this point, since I tried to give examples of how I think the gameplay would work with the changes proposed, to pause here and take a look at how the gameplay works now. The US player generally ignores the zero ipc islands, unless they are already on the route that the USA i...

Re: How to think about Maps, (and IPC distribution)

Hehe good, because I will in no way take your applause as a sign to give up the podium and get off the stage :) OK lets just stick with Hawaii for a second, because you see no advantage to a starting Factory there, and I do. So let me explain how I would use it, if I was USA, or Japan. Lets just ass...

Re: How to think about Maps, (and IPC distribution)

ps. Ok let me just shift gears for half a minute. I don't want to argue in a circle, presenting this stuff as axiomatic. If you stick with with me I think I can explain why I think what think, regarding the starting factory. Forget everything else that's been discussed in this thread and just think ...

Re: How to think about Maps, (and IPC distribution)

Just perhaps, you might be underestimating the utility of a starting factory, and the draw it would have as a VC high value target. I disagree with the assessment that the game is too inflexible to make this work. I mean, if I thought it wouldn't work, I wouldn't keep trying here hehe. This isn't in...

Re: How to think about Maps, (and IPC distribution)

I think if you want to separate off infantry production from the rest of unit production, you have to find a way to do simply and consistently. I think anything that create separate rules for separate territories on the gameboard introduces unnecessary confusion into the play, and makes the game har...

Re: How to think about Maps, (and IPC distribution)

It is hard to deny the internal logic of your arguments Flashman. Part of the issue in Classic and Revised is the ability (specifically of Japan) to purchase new factories. In Revised this issue is somewhat more pronounced owing to the production cap put on starting factories (not present in classic...
