Of all of the Axis and Allies game maps, and I think that I have all of the various editions except 1941, I still like the map of the Classic Game best. My only complaint is the lack of numbering in the sea zones, and I hate to take a marker to any of my boards. I have three copies, including one still in shrink wrap. The students in our summer game class and on game days still love the simplicity and ease of play of the game.

The classic board is still my favorite, but I've been playing on that board since 1988. I may well be biased.

My board bears the scars of numerous modifications over the years, though I did try to restore it pretty much to the original at some point.
Eastern Europe is still 2 territories, though, and nothing would persuade me to restore the original border of Western Europe and Germany with Denmark & the coast of Lower Saxony in WE. Always hated that.
The Japanese pieces were painted bright yellow to tell them apart from UK light tan.

This Round Robin is for Japan with 22 Destroyers & 2 bombers & 11 fighters + USN fleet of just 14 Cruisers & 10 Fighters & 5 Bombers=After two rounds of battle(no chance of reinforcements getting to you). Japan has left 8 DD in for repairs & 4 DDs in The Slot, while USN has 6 CCs in for repairs & 3 Fighters & 3 bombers left.
