Fighters, AA, and Interceptors

Any territory that is flown over that has an enemy fighter stationed there should be susceptible to being intercepted by the enemy fighter(s). Same goes for AA. It is quite absurd that bombers may fly from Britain through the heart of Europe and bomb the Italian Navy in sea zone 97 without resistance. Need anyone be reminded the U.S.A alone lost 56,000 airman in WWII.
