By coincidence I was just reading how the Chicago Tribune, whose owner was anti-British, published a report the day after Midway claiming that the battle had been won because the US Fleet had been reading the Japanese codes.
The government decided not to prosecute to avoid any more publicity, while the Japanese foolishly ignored the information dismissing it as a ruse.
