Question about "Naval Bombardment"

Axis & Allies D-Day begins as Operation Overlord, the invasion of German-held Normandy, is underway -- 130,000 soldiers of the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States are poised to assault Fortress Europe. You and your fellow world powers control their fates.

Naval bombardment

I think it is OK to use this where allied ground units are present because it did happen on D-Day. At Omaha, the US destroyers Satterlee and McCook came close inshore, almost running aground to engage German pill boxes thet were holding up the 1st and 29th divisions

We use the rule that other units can only be attacked with naval gunfire once all the blockhouses in that sector have been destroyed. In our last game, naval gunfire was crucisl in breaking up (my) counter-attack that almost crushed the Utah beach head.
