navel gunfire

We recently tried an optional rule on navel gunfire that I got an idea from on another forum, what we did was, navel fire was normal until all landing facing pillboxes were eliminated, and then allowed targeting of other ground units. But what was different was any target on the coastline areas was a hit on 3 or less, 1 space farther in was at 2 or less and 3 spaces in was 1 to get a hit, also you couldn't target areas with any allied units in it, it worked great .

...comma removed, I like the distance hit rule (reminds me of long range land guns, in Memiors' 44 Game Pacific Set). Thanks, Pelulo
