Balance this.

Axis & Allies D-Day begins as Operation Overlord, the invasion of German-held Normandy, is underway -- 130,000 soldiers of the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States are poised to assault Fortress Europe. You and your fellow world powers control their fates.

I agree the strategy is straight-forward; that's because it's NOT a strategic level game. It's a TACTICAL game. If you look at it from a tactical level - who to send where - then it becomes foggier.

The strategy is pretty obvious. If you're the Allies, cut off Cherbourg and work at it "on the side", take out Caen and then go for St Lo. If you're the Germans, hold them off as much as you can.

But tactically, it's a whole different story. There's different situations each time, so I can't even begin to go into detail. One of the harder choices I find having to make is which is more dangerous to the Allies - German tanks or artillery (ie, AA guns)?

I gotta agree with you TMTM, this game is a blast when it comes down to the wire ... kinda "heart-pounding", at the risk of sounding corny! But it's a lot of fun re-enacting a huge battle, and waiting to see if your gamble will pay off or not ... I love it!
