What do you add to the game (atmosphere, not rules)?

This is the new classic game of Axis & Allies. Designed for 2-5 players, the game is set in 1942 – the historical high-water mark of Axis expansion.

I'm working on creating custom A&A dice to speed up the combat resolution even more. As I mentioned above, there will be 4 dice, each number shown below is the number needed to hit:

1: White die (attacking infantry, etc.)
2: Black die (defending infantry, artillery)
3: Green die (tank, etc)
4: Red die (BB, bomber, etc.)

My new idea is to buy blank dice, maybe 12 or so of each of the above 4 colors. I'm going to put "hit" symbols (similar to the symbol on the top die shown below) on a number of sides of every die, equaling the number of hits that die can hit on, and leaving the other sides blank.

For example, the red die will be used for bombers and battleships and defending fighters. It will have two blank sides and 4 sides with the hit symbol on it. In combat, You simply pick up all the dice for the units in this round of combat and toss them. Count the hit symbols and you are done!

Back when it was any A&A game, as long as it was the eighties & nineties version, I received a Xeno supplement as a gift. Got some about 144 scale steam & diesel engines and cars(from a bubblegum machine), and, used them as a house rule for transportation symbols.

They move any land base unit two spaces, except tanks & factories one space(only the USSR could move a factory). The basic A&A games are long gone(had five of them), but, still got those trains, thanks, Pellulo

I have a 5 disc player so I also usually try to get a cd from each of the five major nations to play in the background.

Germany- Wizo, Remmstein
Japan- Balzac or one of my Godzilla scores which has nice march themes
Russia- Tatu
UK- Sex Pistols, Clash, Iron Madien
US- so many to pick from

Italy- Livan

I usually get props from a new player for having a russian CD ;)

Took some time but can't go back to non painted. Still have a few more to go though but made a difference for sure. I also like to watch more recent WWII themed movies during gameplay. Last one was Pearl Harbor (with Ben Afleck) for example.

Flight stands are awesome, made my own by cutting, folding and gluing pieces from a sheet of transparency material and just gluing the planes to the top part. I also switched to N scale miniatures for all land based forces and 1/3000th scale for all naval, battleships and carriers from revised are used for cruisers or medium carriers. Battleships and carriers from the original game are even smaller and make good light cruisers or escort carriers. Transporters from all versions are still useful but the destroyers and submarines don't match up well with the 1/3000th scale miniatures because they are too big.
