AA42SE: UK artillery question

This is the new classic game of Axis & Allies. Designed for 2-5 players, the game is set in 1942 – the historical high-water mark of Axis expansion.

AA42SE: UK artillery question

Post by Knas » Sat Sep 29, 2012 6:57 am

Since I didn't receive any UK artiller pieces with my 1942 SE box, how many is it supposed to be included?

Some first impressions on 1942 SE:

+ Good cardboard quality
+ AA artillery, much better than cardboard version
+ NPC chart placement
+ New map layout (haven't played it enough for a fair judgement though)

- Cardboard factories instead of the oldschool plastic ones
- UK and Germany incorrect starting IPC
- Eastern and western map halves doesn't fit 100% heightwise when lying side by side
- No paper IPC included

- Sell aditional chips bags!

There should be 6 UK artillery pieces. Contact Wizards Customer Service using the information on the back of the Rulebook, and they'll send them to you.

So, what's your overall initial impression?

Thanks for fast respond, as allways. :D

Overall it feels pretty solid, nice pieces and thick cardboard that feels like good quality. This impression is slightly dented by mistakes with starting IPC's and the cardboard factories feels pretty cheap compared with the old plastic ones. The lack of IPC feels also a bit cheap, you save some money but make the product feel much cheaper to new players.

If the quality team had taken 5 new players from the street for playtesting they would have gotten rid of issues like wrong IPC counts, wrong VC's on maps, strange borders, missing markings on neutral territories etc that have been haunting A&A games the last couple of years.

As for game balance, I have not enough games played in this version yet for a fair judgement.

Off topic: Any chance of a reprint of the anniversary edition?

Thanks for the feedback.

I seriously doubt there will ever be a reprint of the Anniversary edition, but you never know what may happen.

It would seem that this game is their attempt to get an "in between" version that comes close to AA50, but isn't.

Taking the Anniversary rules and slamming back onto the Revised map definitely wasn't the answer. And this seems to be the middle version now that the AA41 and AA40 Global games are here.
