pacific 1940 - attacking lone transports

Post by Bothwell » Mon Sep 19, 2011 11:34 am

Can 1 fighter leave an island then attack a lone transport and then return to its original island. And if yes does this mean 1 fighter could potentially automatically destroy all unaccompanied transports in that seazone then return to its island?

This is not a scramble situation , the transport was not performing an amphibious assault. It is two sea zones away and the island fighter pilot wishes to fly out and attack it in his combat move.

Yes, transports have no combat value. Unprotected transports die with a fly by (no dice rolled). The plane used can't make any other attacks that turn though. Lone transports can also be sunk w/ships (with attack values) without rolling dice. The ship used to attack must stay in that sea zone (it is still considered an attack).

See the Defenseless Transport clause box on page 17 of the Pac rule book (upper right corner), and transport rules on page 31.

Transport rules were changed in the Anniversary addition (AA50), and continues w/the Pac 40, and Euro 40 (global 40). It was put into place so you would have to defend your transports, not the other way around like in older versions. It also makes transports the last ship lost in navy battles. It is good (more realistic) for the game, but does take some time to get used to if you have played older versions.
