combat questions

Post by jbano2 » Thu Feb 10, 2011 2:19 am

I have 2 quick combat question that i would like clarification on

1) retreating on an amphibious land asslut. I was wondering if you can retreaat with overland and air uints even if there are still some troops left from the sea, and then the sea troops can stay and finsh finghting. Or can you only retreat after you have killed off all of your troops that came from the see.

2) Destoryers and sub. on page 19 it says "..air uints can't be assigned to sub. unless there is a destroyer present that is friendly to the air uints..." but then later in the manuel says that friendly attacking destoryers can not cancel subs ablities. I am pretty sure that this means that the "friendly" destroyer must acctually be fighting and hence the term friendly really only applies to the defending side, but i just wanted to make sure.

1) The other units can retreat if there are still seaborne units remaining, leaving the seaborne units to finish the battle alone.

2) Yes, it applies only to the defender.

I have a couple of related questions:

1) What about for simple land & air attacks (non-amphibious)? Can some units retreat while other units stay and continue fighting, or do all units have to retreat once a decision to retreat is made?

2) If attacking units came from multiple territories, can I:
a) freely distribute my retreating units among the originating territories?
b) only retreat each unit back to its own originating territory?
c) only retreat all units together into 1 of the originating territories?

Thanks for your help!

1) They all must retreat together.

2) c - all land units must retreat to one territory, but air units may go anywhere within their remaining range.
