A new dice quest?

Axis and Allies: Europe pits you and your opponents in the massive struggle of World War 2 in Europe, the Atlantic, and across North Africa and the Middle East. This spin on the classic game adds new pieces (artillery and destroyers), new economic warfare rules (convoys, Middle Eastern oil fields, and expanded strategic bombing), and a more detailed European theater.

A new dice quest?

Post by Knightscourt » Sun Jan 30, 2005 2:42 pm

I have heard of some who play with 8 sided dice not with the standard 6 sided dice, my question is this;
Which is best and why, furthermore what adjustment's need to be made so the new dice can be used?
Maybe a poll? :P

D12 is the prefered choice of gamers here, except adlertag.. The idea is their is a large spread of numbers to assign values. For example lets turn a/a into a D4 game . All the units will be either 1,2,3,or 4 in attack and defence. This does not allow any real differenciation for the units. As you go up to D12 its very possible to have a lot of different units all with excellent differences and a reason behind buying them. D8 is a waste of time, it offers no real substantial "spread".

Hmmm a 2 year old quote now answered.

D12 is preferred because its a balanced family of possible outcomes, while the D6 is limited to a very small family of results. D100 has too many results because AA does not have 80 different units. Its growing to accommodate soon about 15 types of units and 6 different results it too crowded for 15 unigue types of units. What eventually happens is everything has too similar values and its boring and unhistorical.
We really need an Axis and Allies World War one game so i can play that on August 1st, 2014.
