I loved Eagle games version of this game I thought it was excellent. Interested to see if what rule changes are made. Will probably buy it but would've preferred a Napoleonic or Medieval style Axis and Allies game. Love the games Larry keep up the GREAT work.

Depends what you mean by the Eagle Games version - there were two completely different games in that package.

Any new version will be along the lines of Larry'as original; forget the one with the voting senators and influence tokens.

I'm really hoping for an Ave Caesar tie-in.

I think both were good. Il liked the cards and movement but the original is a great game. Movement needs to be adjusted as does being the one who has Rome to start with. Almost no hope of victory.

Does anybody have a release date or close to it. I am guessing March or April because IL's pictures make it seem all the components are there to begin printing this thing. Curious if anybody knows anything.

No chance. This is still in early development; the components look like GM edition pieces given a spray job.

Of course it may be pretty much a recast of the original version with a few rules tweeks (no roads) but I'm hoping for something more; the Ave Caesar tie-in is a long shot of course.

Circa 220 BC would be the idea date for the Prequel/Expansion.

This gives Rome, Carthage, Gaul, Macedonia (Antigonids), Egypt (Ptolemies) and Syria (Seleucids) as the six powers.

Gaul west of the Rhine can be considered on a similar technological level as Rome in this period.

The same sculpts would work for the 3 Greek powers, probably unique pieces for the westerners including Republican Romans.

Also:

Eastern map extension
Persian/Parthian army
8 player chariot track
Elephant units for all armies
