For all three versions, 1917, 1942, and, 2025, the cards can introduce favorable situations. Like move any or all forces from one part of the world to another, for instance all forces from secured North America to South America. Another card could throw three partisans, armor, APC, copter force forms an resistance army, in the Ural Mountains. An industrial card could offer an “Baby Flat-Top Carrier” with only one fighter on board, place anywhere in the Pacific Ocean.

Another card could be worldwide, Resistance hardens and all forces defense goes up by one/All attacking forces stats increase by one. Easily you could have 12-18 cards for each Strategy, Tactics, and, Luck/Fog of War cards. Maybe a dozen or so cards of all three types lumped together in Invaders’s Cards.

But still an automatic upgrade, or, purchase upgrade is something else...

The temptation is the use of Nuclear, Biological, and, Chemical weapons or N.B.C. Of course these “Sour Grapes” weapons might deny the Earth to the invaders, but, makes the planet pretty much useless to its inhabitants.

Finally if you go by the book and movies, Nukes did not work against the Martian Shielding, Biological Defense by the Martians was quite inadequate, and, Poison Gas was a quite effective weapon, probably better than the fame Heat Ray...

In order to have a game, you have to weaken the shields, maybe even eliminate them for the 1917 game. After all having shields was only a movie Add On plot ideal, too strong then you have no motive for a game.

The Martians can still win the game, but, like in the movies on the verge of victory they die off of disease. So a game can always be a win-win for Earth, but, they may not be too many humans left at the end of Round 10. So much for the much delayed Biological Weapon.

Finally, especially in the book, usually there was no word/communication when Martian Tripods went through a area. The Poison Gas Weapon, was more effective than the Heat Wave. Now for play purposes, the gas is downplayed, even W.W.I technology can deal with it.

Except for the Well’s broadcast, when the gas engulfs Manhattan Island, the movies ignore it.

For any infantryman/marine making an amphibious landing, on their first attack, increases automatically to a two.

Trooper can hitch a ride on armor, take a hit for it, and, still battle out.

Partisans can retreat two spaces...

For 1917 armor, you can upgrade it, after Round 6 or so, the ability to have a better defense factor.
For the 1942 , an up grade to heavy tanks with the stats of A/D of 4/3. An A.P.C. In conjunction with a artillery unit is increase to 3/2(some carried a small cannon on top, or, towed A.T. Guns or were A.A. Platforms. Also some were platforms for short range missiles of a multiple nature).

Finally for Modern Times, upgraded Main Battle Tanks, have a greater capacity against Martian Flying Machines, upgrade attack and defense by one.

12-31-1917. The Western Alliance Infantrymen waited in their trenches, as the tanks lumbered to their prepared positions, over heard could be heard fighters patrolling & escorting bombers, as gunners got their artillery pieces positioned for pre-planed barrage.

In the distance rail guns raised their cannons upwards, while offshore in the English Channel World Wide combined fleets of dreadnoughts/battlecruisers/battleships and cruisers flashed messages to each other, as their turrets turned landwards.

Forward hospitals got their triage stations stocked, ORs and ERs stations were readied.

Suddenly scouts returned to the front lines, to this day, it is not know why the Martians abandoned their front lines , and, retreated 80km. rearwards. The Infantrymen never heard the whistle or Star Shell commencing an attack. They relax taking off their gas masks.

Marshall Petain had stopped the Martian advance against Verdun cold in their tracks, after a 10 month battle. Defended by former Axis & Allies forces, with newly arrived U.S. forces, 200,000 per month.

To this day, this was a good omen for the coming New Year of 1918...

Bombers and fighter- bombers could increase their range by two, for the Modern Times game. While the same for W.W.II for range, and, an upgraded Torpedo Bomber for both the W.W.I & II games.

Finally the introduction of Jets for the W.W.II, but, as a defensive weapon(first generation Jets of W.W.II had a very short flying time).

Now Sea Power...

Due to better technology submarines are truly submersible and are now A/D of 3/2 for W.W.II 1942 game(borrowing from U.S.N. Pacific boat & GE. Type XXI submarine). While for modern times, subs. all are fitted with cruise missiles, and, can hit a sea/land target two spaces away, while immune for counterattack(in other words a free surprise attack).

As for capital ships, for all 1917 & 1942 & 2025 games...
